Luis is a terrific guide. He picked us up at our hotel in his very new and comfortable car. He took us a a full day tour of Monte Alban, than we visited a school for wood carvers and painters, a clay pottery artists, and a great lunch at a local place in the outskirts of Oaxaca. He tailor this private tour to our needs, desires, and physical abilities. He is very knowledgeable and speaks perfect English.
I highly recommend Luis Ramirez as a guide in Oaxaca. We had two full days of tours with Luis to sites outside of Oaxaca and some in the city, which involved hiking, swimming, history, culture. Luis is very knowledgable, has a clear way of explaining both the rich history and current culture, has a gentle demeanor, and is a good, safe driver. In particular, I really appreciated Luis’ flexibility. We discussed some of my particular interests and decided on some changes in the originally planned itinerary and I really appreciated his flexibility and personable approach. Excellent English.
Luis is a phenomenal tour guide. We hired him this year (the third time we have hired him in the past 3 years) to take us shopping in the villages and to take us to memorable Day of the Dead events. We visited cemeteries and altars in private homes in order to get a more immersive experience. We were extremely touched by the families we met and their willingness to share this special time of year with us.
We are world travelers and Luis is the best guide we have ever had. He is extremely knowledgeable, an excellent driver, well respected by the locals, and very kind and polite. He is first rate!
Luis Ramirez is one of the best tour guides. After 3 days of research on the best places to see in Oaxaca I contacted him at LuisRamirezTours.com and he answered me immediately. He greeted us at the hotel on time to start our journey. He is the best tour guide as he speaks clear English and Spanish explaining the history of Oaxaca and the background of the places we were going to visit while we were sitting in total comfort in his clean well kept car so we can just take in the views and enjoy the sites. We spent 2 amazing days with Luis Ramires visiting Hierve el Agua, Textiles, Mezcal, Mitla, Monte Alban, Barro Negro, and Tilcajete. Luis Ramírez was flexible and went with the moment assuring we got an authentic Oaxaca experience.
He took us to see a folkloric dance as he heard the music from far knowing we would enjoy immersing in the amazing history of Oaxaca. He is truly the best of the best tour guide in Oaxaca as we heard some of the stories from other visitors at the Botanical Garden. We realized how much we have learned, that Luis Ramirez was truly invested in giving us a great time and sharing his love of Oaxaca. We ate, we laugh, we drank, we had the best of times in the safety and caring of the best tour guide in Oaxaca. Highly recommend Luis Ramirez if you are thinking on visiting Oaxaca Mexico (52 951 118 4534)
Luis took my friend and me, on 2 separate days, touring the Oaxacan outlying villages. He is knowledgeable, warm, and open to sharing what his life is like as a Oaxacan native. We learned so much in a wonderfully, fun way.
He clearly is working hard to continually learn new details about his history and culture that he shares in his professional yet personal way. I can’t recommend him highly enough! His rate may be a little higher than others but you won’t be sorry you chose to spend a day with him.
We hired Luis for two days and I would be thrilled to have had him as a guide for a week.
Luis is extremely knowledgeable, and was always flexible and willing to work with our interests and last minute changes. In addition, he is a very nice person, who gave us insights into life in Oaxaca we would never have known otherwise. He was always patient with our numerous questions. He is also a very safe driver. I highly recommend Luis!
I found Luis on trip advisor and I must say he was brilliant . We exchanged a few messages and when the day arrived … he was on time to pick us up and ready to drive us around.
Soft spoken and fairly knowledgeable about oaxacan culture and history of this area , we enjoyed spending our day with Luis who took us to Monte Alban, tlocolula Market, teotitlan, mezcal tasting and Mitla.
More than soaking in the history I think Luis was just a pleasant guy to be around and it suited us perfectly . Highly recommend him .
Luis was recommended to me by a local friend in Oaxaca. He took me and my family out on excursions on numerous occasions. Luis was fabulous with everyone – children, parents, and abuelos. He is very conscientious as a driver, a guide, and a host.
I very much appreciated that he was conservative in his explanations about what he and researchers know about archaeological sites and he did not invent stories to fill in gaps.
He was always responsive to communications, prompt at pick up, and with the return. I strongly recommend Luis to anyone – any age group – interested in seeing the amazing sites and visiting the beautiful towns around Oaxaca City. He will make your visit comfortable and very memorable.

Hi. I’m Luis Ramírez and I was born in Oaxaca. I have lived most of my life in Oaxaca city and have been working as a guide for over 8 years now. I innately know about the history, culture and traditions of my hometown but I have also studied extensively to educate myself even more. I love sharing my cultural heritage with visitors from all over the world and this has become a defining point in my life… sharing my cultural knowledge but even more importantly, sharing moments of my life with others. You could say that I have found my calling which makes this “job” an absolute joy for me. Every success in my life in recent years have come from this simple fact.
I got officially certified and licensed as a tour guide in Oaxaca in 2012 and have been working even “harder” ever since. I make it a point to never stop studying or learning about, not only Oaxaca, but Mexico in general and I am forever looking for new and exciting places and people to take my tourist friends to. It brings me pleasure to create this interaction for them and, of course, to be a part of it all.
So I invite you to continue navegating through my new website and if you would like to contact me, you may do so here. It will be my great pleasure to share with you the experience of Oaxaca and I hope to see you soon.
We can put together a personalized tour to go wherever you like whenever you like but for those that are not that sure I have the typical tour packages pre-designed for your convenience that you can check out here.
I am licensed to give tours to any archeological site in Oaxaca and I can do so either in English or Spanish. If you need another language, I can arrange that too with my fellow guides.
What better way to discover Oaxaca than on foot? The Guided Walking Tours are a fascinating and entertaining way to explore and learn about this unique city, its history, churches, markets, famous people and traditions.
I can pick you up at the airport or drop you off there… or both!
