We had a wonderful time with Luis on our trip to Oaxaca in 2022 seeing Monte Alban, Mercado Abasto, and Hierve el Agua. We knew we had to return to join Luis on one of his mountain biking tours. This October we came back to Oaxaca and Luis planned an incredible tour of the Mitla Valley by bike. What an adventure! The scenery was incredible and Luis even brought us breakfast treats from his home town. I had never been mountain biking before but Luis was able to customize our tour to beginners and brought us all the gear we needed. We explored the caves and the prehistoric petroglyphs (a must see!) and then wandered through the San Pablo Villa de Mitla Archeological Site. The best thing we’ve done in Oaxaca yet. We’re looking forward to coming back to do more mountain biking with Louis in the future.

Luis is a terrific guide. He picked us up at our hotel in his very new and comfortable car. He took us a a full day tour of Monte Alban, than we visited a school for wood carvers and painters, a clay pottery artists, and a great lunch at a local place in the outskirts of Oaxaca. He tailor this private tour to our needs, desires, and physical abilities. He is very knowledgeable and speaks perfect English.

I highly recommend Luis Ramirez as a guide in Oaxaca. We had two full days of tours with Luis to sites outside of Oaxaca and some in the city, which involved hiking, swimming, history, culture. Luis is very knowledgable, has a clear way of explaining both the rich history and current culture, has a gentle demeanor, and is a good, safe driver. In particular, I really appreciated Luis’ flexibility. We discussed some of my particular interests and decided on some changes in the originally planned itinerary and I really appreciated his flexibility and personable approach. Excellent English.

Luis is a phenomenal tour guide. We hired him this year (the third time we have hired him in the past 3 years) to take us shopping in the villages and to take us to memorable Day of the Dead events. We visited cemeteries and altars in private homes in order to get a more immersive experience. We were extremely touched by the families we met and their willingness to share this special time of year with us.

Luis took my friend and me, on 2 separate days, touring the Oaxacan outlying villages. He is knowledgeable, warm, and open to sharing what his life is like as a Oaxacan native. We learned so much in a wonderfully, fun way.

I found Luis on trip advisor and I must say he was brilliant . We exchanged a few messages and when the day arrived … he was on time to pick us up and ready to drive us around.

Soft spoken and fairly knowledgeable about oaxacan culture and history of this area , we enjoyed spending our day with Luis who took us to Monte Alban, tlocolula Market, teotitlan, mezcal tasting and Mitla.

About Me

Hi. I’m Luis Ramírez and I was born in Oaxaca. I have lived most of my life in Oaxaca city and have been working as a guide for over 8 years now. I innately know about the history, culture and traditions of my hometown but I have also studied extensively to educate myself even more. I love sharing my cultural heritage with visitors from all over the world and this has become a defining point in my life… sharing my cultural knowledge but even more importantly, sharing moments of my life with others. You could say that I have found my calling which makes this “job” an absolute joy for me. Every success in my life in recent years have come from this simple fact.

I got officially certified and licensed as a tour guide in Oaxaca in 2012 and have been working even “harder” ever since. I make it a point to never stop studying or learning about, not only Oaxaca, but Mexico in general and I am forever looking for new and exciting places and people to take my tourist friends to. It brings me pleasure to create this interaction for them and, of course, to be a part of it all.
